Deep Towed Sonar System
MAK-1M

The MAK-1M system is a deep towed, dual-frequency side scan
sonar (SSS) with simultaneous sub-bottom profiler (SBP). The system consists
of 2 main subsystems: the surface equipment
(on the support vessel) and the subsea subsystem. Mechanical and electrical
link between these subsystems is via a single coaxial electromechanical
cable up to 10,000 m length.
Subsurface Subsystem
The surface equipment consists of desk-top and rack-mounted
units. The data processor and line coupler are fitted in standard 19" rack
mounts. The desktop units include PC AT 486 computer and a greyscale
thermographic recorder. Features include:

The post processing includes:

Water column removing

Correction of raw navigation data

Mosaicing of the SSS images in geographical coordinates

Reduction of the acoustic profiler image to true relief

Formation of the seabed section image in a given scale

SSS slant range correction

Transformation of scale and reduction of the seabed image to
geographical coordinates
Subsea Subsystem
The subsea system consists of a neutrally buoyant towfish and
passive depressor. The tow fish includes the following characteristics:
